For sale: 1963 Lightweight Elva Courier Mk III Race Car

A rare opportunity to own a true lightweight Elva Courier Mk III, in long-term ownership since 1977. This car has spent nearly its entire life as a dedicated racer and received a comprehensive restoration in 2007 (photos available).

In the spirit of the four Sebring Couriers, it now runs a Lotus Twin Cam engine with dual 40 DCOE Webers, producing approximately 160 BHP. Power is delivered through a Ford T-9 five‑speed transmission, with only about 30 hours of street use on the engine.

Weighing just 1,300 pounds, the Courier is exceptionally quick and responsive. Very few Couriers were built between 1956 and 1966, and even fewer were factory lightweights. This example features the original factory‑installed hood scoop designed to clear a BMC Darrington setup.

The chassis and metal components are powder‑coated or finished with POR‑15, including the frame and fuel tank. Suspension parts, brake rotors, and drums are also powder‑coated. The suspension is equipped with adjustable Carrera racing shocks and springs supplied by Elva expert Butch Gilbert. It currently rides on authentic Minilite wheels wrapped in recently installed Toyo Proxes R888 tires.

This Courier has genuine period racing history, having competed at Ontario’s Mosport Raceway in the mid‑1960s and British Columbia’s Westwood Raceway in the 1970s, along with numerous autocross events over the decades. While it will need updates to return to track duty, it is fully street‑registered and comes with a soft top, side curtains, and tonneau cover.

It’s a striking, attention‑grabbing car at shows and events. Located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, it is licensed, drivable, and ready for its next enthusiast. Importing vintage vehicles over 25 years old into the U.S. is tariff‑free; only a 2.5% duty applies to the purchase price.

For sale: 1976 LeGrand MK17 Formula Vee

This car is one of two built by “Red Legrand” as prototypes for the MK 22 kit car. The car was originally a z-bar car with trailing arms & dual coil over shocks and as such would be a “Monoposto” legal formula vee. However, the rear clip of this car had been updated with a leading arm zero roll suspension, prior to acquiring this car in 1987. I raced this car competitively with SCCA CalClub for twenty years, & in 2004 & 2005 with VARA in Southern California, being class champion both years with their vintage FV2 class. While the reverting back to “Monoposto” specifications is feasible, the car is vintage legal , in VARA as an FV2 & as Club Formula Vee with SOVREN in the North West. The car has a tall roll bar, a light weight chassis and as such can accommodate larger drivers. All log books dating back to 1976 are available. I restored the car to race with SOVREN and the car has new paint, new seat belts , a fire system, new gas shocks front and rear, a new “Fire Safe” fuel cell, new stainless steel brake and clutch lines. The Engine is freshly built professionally by Mark Edwards, sporting a stainless steel “Roxannes 4-2-1 exhaust system. In addition, the car comes with two sets of NOS Hoosier SCCA spec FV slicks, One set of barely used rain tires and one set of once only used Hoosier FV slicks all mounted & balanced. Spares include one rear control arm, one front axle beam with ride height adjuster installed, and a completely assembled ported FV cylinder head,. one spare unpainted upper body cover, a painted engine cover, both large and small “citation” style air scoops, an alignment trammel bar, and a VW 5 bolt wheel adapter needed for tire shop balancing. Finally, the car comes with production quality molds for the nose, upper body , engine cover and large & small air scoops.

The car is located in dry storage in Grants Pass Oregon. Price for all of the above is $8,800. Call Lou at 818 399-3802
